Lama Brand Cannabis: Eco-Conscious Boutique Garden
Lama Brand Cannabis – Northglenn, CO
Lama Brand Cannabis was founded in 2015 with the goal of producing some of the best cannabis in Colorado. Owners Tony Karas and Matthew Willey, formerly of Colorado Alternative Medicine, both have extensive knowledge and experience in the cannabis industry. They produce wholesale cannabis and pride themselves on the reputation and quality of their strains. I met with Karas, who was kind enough to introduce me to the entire garden team and walk me through each stage of the growing process.
The garden shares a building with — and supplies cannabis for — bgood MMJ, a popular dispensary just off I-25 in Northglenn. In addition to carrying some of Colorado’s finest brands, they also offer exquisite concentrates made with Lama Brand flower. The garden itself is about 10,000 square feet and is home to around 60 recreational strains at a time. Plants are always hand-tended and meticulously monitored by lead grower Cliff Hill. They grow hydroponically and in a coco-based medium, depending on the structure and integrity of each individual strain, and also utilize hydroton clay balls, a method that is labor intensive but yields tremendous results.
Lama Brand Cannabis use efficient lights as a means to save on energy, as well as a recirculating watering method, which leads to minuscule water waste. Any and all plant material waste is recycled by Industrial Hemp Recycling. Lama Brand’s garden is pristine; their plants boast chunky, dense, sticky buds, all of which were simply begging to be touched and smelled. I perused my way through strains like Hell’s OG, Kosher Kush, Dosidos and Headband, each strain more impressive and potent than the last. A few of their cured strains that left me feeling particularly impressed included Skunkberry and Granola Funk; the best of the best strains go on to become in-house concentrates, courtesy of master extractor Ken Well.
